Rizhao has rich tourist resources with sea, mountain, forestry, long history and brilliant culture. It enjoys exceptional advantages of “Clear Sky, BlueSea and Golden sand beach”. MountWulian—Holy Land of Buddhism, MountJiuxian with beautiful scenery and RizhaoCoastalForestryPark in the city are very famous. The 3500-year-old Gingko Tree on FulaiMountain is the “No. 1 Gingko Tree in the world”. Rizhao has beautiful environment. By the end of 2002, the green land in the built up area is up to 38.2%. It’s a model landscaping city of China. JulianMountain is the biggest wild azalea base in China. There are over 30 varieties of azalea.

Rizhao is also one of the cradles of Chinese civilization with a long history and brilliant culture. Within the boundary, there are some famous historic relics including Lingyanghe, Liangcheng, Donghaiyu and Yaowangcheng. All these relics belong to Dawenkou Culture or Longshan Culture. The pictograph was proved to be the earliest pictograph in China, which is over 1000 years earlier than oracle. A number of celebrities are from Rizhao, for example Liu Xie, the author of the first Chinese literary theoretical works -- “WenXinDiaoLong” as well as the famous Chinese literary critic in South and North Dynasty and Dr. Samuel Ting, the world famous physicist and Nobel Prize winner.
