Recent years, Rizhao Municipal Government has taken “Strategy of Ecocity ”, one of the four development strategies of our city, into the overall planning of economic and social development. Rizhao Municipal Government actively uses the vision of Ecocity to plan and manage our city. With the fast growth of economy and expansion of city, Rizhao still maintains the advantages of “blue sky, green tree, jade-green sea and golden beach”. The environment quality has experienced continuous improvement and the features of Ecocity are becoming obvious. Recent years, the quality of air, portable water and sea water has been up to the first level of National Standard. It has ranked first for 6 years successively in the assessment of urban environment comprehensive treatment among all the prefecture-level cities of Shandong Province.It ranked 7th among all cities in the List of Air Quality Daily Report of 118 Major Cities around China.
Through several years’ construction, Rizhao has fulfilled all tasks required by the planning and construction of Ecological Demonstration Zone. The city takes a new outlook. The environment quality maintains stable as a whole, the quality of water resources has further improvement and the natural resources have been protected effectively. The construction of ecological demonstration zone has gained remarkable achievements, which is of significance for guiding the minded land reclamation, development of circular economy and GreenCity initiatives.
On October 16, 2005, the assessment team of National Ecological Demonstration Pilot Zone declared that 26 indexes of Rizhao have fully met the requirements of Second Level of National Ecological Demonstration Zone, thus Rizhao passed the verification and acceptance checks . Therefore, Rizhao became the first National Demonstration Zone as a prefecture-level city of ShandongProvince, which laid solid foundation for building National Ecocity.
