| The CPC Rizhao Municipal Committee and Rizhao Municipal Government attach great importance to the environmental protection and regard building National Model City of Environmental Protection as the platform for improving living and investment environment and building modern city. They adhere to the principle of harmonious development between environment and economy and ensure that the verification and approval of environmental protection should be first in formalities for a newly-built project. Beneficial efforts are tried in fields of maintaining ecological features, developing ecological industry and exploring circular economy concept. The activities of building National Model City of Environmental Protection promote the development of circular economy, and at the same time the circular economy enriches the characteristics of ModelCity. The activities of building ModelCity enjoy popular support through a variety of publicity and education. A survey shows that the ratio of the public satisfaction with the government’s work for environmental protection and the environment quality both exceeds to 90 percent. On November 17, 2005, Rizhao was awarded the title of “National Model City of Environmental Protection”by the State Environmental Protection Administration at its 22n meeting.
