Coatzacoalcos is a major historical port city in the southern part of the Mexican state of Veracruz, on the CoatzacoalcosRiver. The municipality covers a surface area of 471.16 km2 and a population of 300,000. The annual capacity of Coatzacoalcos port is 360 million tons. The city enjoys convenient transportation. The city is an important commercial center; oil, sulfur, and timber are exported.
Coatzacoalcos and Rizhao established the sister-city relationship in October 23, 2005.
